So you're new to Cranbrook

Here is what you need to know.

We meet at Cranbrook Baptist Church, Wellesley Road, Ilford, Essex, IG1 4JT.

Service time : 10:30AM Sunday Morning.

What to expect: We gather together to worship Jesus. We’re not formal; we’re not polished. However, we are a grateful people who want to gather together to worship Jesus, love each other and love our community. We are far from perfect, but we worship and thank the One who is.

Anyone and everyone is invited to join us each Sunday.

Here are some F.A.Qs (if you like those kinda things) :

Q : What should I wear?
A : Clothes that you are comfortable in. Come as you are.

Q: Do I stand, sit, kneel?
A: It’s completely up to you; do whatever you are comfortable with. We believe that, even though we meet as a body to worship, each person worships God uniquely. Some might raise their hands or clap when signing; some might sit and pray quietly – reflecting their own way of worship to God. If you want to join in, then do.

Q: How long is the service?
A: The service usually lasts around an hour and a half. Afterwards you are free to stay for as long as you want with tea/coffee and conversation.

Q: Is it one of those happy, clappy, churches?
A: We sing a lot and we have a group of musicians and singers who lead our songs. We also have instruments that you can play. We believe music is a great tool to use to worship, so we use it throughout our service. We try to keep an array of styles of music through the service, from old hymns to modern rock-style worship songs, so that it is as inclusive as possible. We also have acapella where it is felt appropriate. We include the children to join in and at times lead us in our singing.

If you love Jesus and want to join the band, talk to one of the leaders.

Q: Will I be preached at?
A: Yes, but not quite like you’d expect. Preaching is a vital way in which God speaks to His church. We want to hear from God, so we are happy to listen to what He wants to say from the bible.

Q: Oh by the way, I have a kid… should I leave him/her at home?
A: NO WAY! We love kids; in fact we have some wonderful people that would love nothing more than to hang out with your children.

We provide care for new-borns to secondary school age and when we say care we mean we really care about your children - they learn about Jesus just like you do.

Our Sunday School volunteers have been trained and empowered to teach God’s word to your kids in relevant and fun ways.

Do you have a kid of secondary school age? Well leave them at home… just kidding! We would love your kid to join us in our worship services because we think it’s important for them to experience what we are doing as well. They will certainly be very welcome.

All our volunteers are CRB checked with full disclosure.

Q: Should I bring a Bible?
A: If you have one, sure. If you have it on your phone or a tablet, that’s fine too. We also have Bibles that you can use during the service and we tend to put the passages up on the screen most of the time.

(We tend to use the ESV if you are so inclined).

Q: Do I have to put money in the offering bag?
A: No.

Please feel free to let the offering bag pass you by; no one will think any less of you.

However, we do take giving seriously as it is part of our worship and we encourage our members and regular friends to give.

All the money is used to furthur the work of CBC in Ilford and beyond.

Q: Why give?
A: Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live.

As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity in order to help more people meet Jesus

Scripture has a lot to say about giving and we give because we want to be like Jesus; modelling our lives after him means giving.

We give because it shows our priorities. Matthew 6:19-20
We give because it shows faith in action. Acts 4:32-35
We give because we have been given so much. 2 Corinthians 8:9
