22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Salvation isn’t a one-time occurrence: it is a daily experience. Paul talks about the gospel ‘which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved’ (1 Corinthians 15:1-2). The Good News of Jesus Christ continues to save believers each and every day of their life.
This means that today you and I still need saving. Today we will face multiple temptations, we will be under threat of the fiery darts of the enemy, sin and suffering will try to eclipse grace and mercy. How can we, who have already received the gospel, be saved today?
The Holy Spirit has made us His allotment. Each and every moment He is cultivating us into the perfect habitat for the presence of God. We are like a tree which He is watering and pruning and nurturing and shining on. The Holy Spirit, today, is at work in us, making us more like Jesus.
Sometimes, this just takes light from above shining onto our leaves. Sometimes our roots need to work hard as we suck up the water from what’s around us. Sometimes we just need a big, steaming pile of manure to give us the nutrients we need. We can be confident that, whatever situation we find ourselves in, the Holy Spirit is at work turning it into fruit.
Which specific part of the fruit of the Spirit do you want to see a real growth in over the coming weeks and months?
