11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
Before creation, we were in the mind of God.
God predestined us. This means that before time He had a destiny for His children: that they would be adopted, loved and empowered for a life that brings glory to His name. Furthermore, before any action or attitude of our own, God determined to secure our inheritance.
These truths should humble us. It is an incredible thing that God should be so gracious to us as to determine to do us good from eternity past! And it was all ‘according to the counsel of his will.’
We often think that God is hesitant to do good to us. Perhaps some really holy people can expect to see God’s powerful work in their lives, but not us ‘normal’ Christians. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Before God said, ‘Let there be light,’ He had determined to empower His children.
What should our response be to this? To live ‘to the praise of his glory.’ To give every moment of every day to the task of experiencing and revealing just how glorious God is.
That is your destiny!
What is your response to the fact that you were ‘predestined’?
